DUBAI BUYING GUIDE · RETAIL LIGHTING

Retail shop lighting in Dubai: prepare a supplier-ready schedule

Specify spotlights, track lights, LED strips and display lighting for a Dubai shop with finish references, control requirements and sample approvals.

RETAIL LIGHTING purchasing checklist

The short answer

A retail lighting enquiry should start with the designer-approved layout and fixture schedule. Separate general lighting, product-display lighting and decorative fittings, then identify the required drivers, controls, mounting parts and finishes. Ask a lighting supplier serving Dubai to quote against those references so proposed alternatives can be reviewed consistently.

What to include in your quotation request

RequirementDetails to provide
Fixture scheduleLocation reference, approved model or performance specification, quantity and finish.
Display areasDisplay dimensions, intended visual effect and designer-approved lighting requirements.
ControlsRequired dimming arrangement and compatible drivers or controllers.
SamplesAppearance review, sample reference and approval responsibility.

Separate the roles of the fittings

A shop may need ceiling lighting, focused product lighting and decorative pendants, but those are different purchasing requirements. Assign a reference to every fitting type and link it to the relevant area. Your lighting designer should establish the actual performance requirements. A buyer can then ask for the specified products without making design decisions from a catalogue photograph. Mark fitting quantities as approved or provisional so a quotation is not mistaken for a final installation schedule.

Ask what belongs to the system

Track heads, tracks, connectors and feeds should not be treated as interchangeable merely because their appearance is similar. Request the exact proposed system references and have the installer confirm the complete arrangement. For LED strips, separately identify the approved strip, profile, diffuser, driver and controls. For hanging lights, include mounting and suspension requirements supplied by the project team. This makes it easier to spot an incomplete offer before placing the order.

Review appearance with the real finishes

A picture on a phone cannot settle how a light will look beside your shop's wall colours, shelves or merchandise. Where appearance is important, agree a sample or demonstration process and record the accepted product reference. Ask the designer to review light colour and the intended display effect. Keep decorative finish approval separate from technical acceptance: approving the colour of a housing does not establish that the fitting meets the installation specification.

Build a practical Dubai delivery request

State the shop location and any receiving conditions supplied by the landlord or fit-out team. List approved items separately from choices still awaiting review. Ask suppliers to mark substitutions, missing accessories and uncertain availability against each line. When sending AAMA your lighting enquiry, include your layout references and required timing. Delivery and any installation services should be confirmed explicitly rather than inferred from a material price.

Buyer questions

Can one enquiry include spotlights, pendants and LED strips?

Yes. Give each type its own reference, specification, quantity and accessory list.

Can AAMA guarantee a particular lighting effect?

The lighting effect needs design review and, where appropriate, sample assessment. A product quotation alone is not a lighting design guarantee.

Are drivers included with every fitting?

Ask the quotation to state exactly which components are included for each proposed model.
