The short answer
Before buying smart-home devices for an existing Dubai villa, document the current controls and ask the installer to approve the replacement system. Specify compatible switches, controllers, hubs and accessories as one coordinated list. Record software or subscription requirements and who will configure the system and hand over administrator access.

Start with what is already installed
For a retrofit, the existing installation can limit the products that are suitable. Ask the responsible installer to inspect and document the relevant system rather than selecting devices from appearance alone. Record existing model references and photographs that do not expose private information. Keep the homeowner's requested functions separate from the technical specification. This lets the installer translate a request such as controlling several rooms into an approved purchasing list.
Require a written compatibility decision
Devices carrying similar smart-home descriptions are not automatically part of the same compatible system. Ask the installer to identify the exact models, required hub or controller, and software arrangement. If the supplier proposes an alternative, send that reference back for review before ordering. Clarify accounts and ongoing costs
Ask whether the proposed functions require accounts, licences, subscriptions or paid services. Record who will create the owner account and how access will be transferred at handover. Do not include passwords, door codes or household routines in a quotation attachment. The enquiry normally needs equipment requirements and quantities, not live credentials. Keep support contacts and the agreed documentation with the final purchase record so later maintenance does not depend on informal messages.
Test an approved package before scaling
Where the project team recommends a trial, define the sample area, equipment references and acceptance criteria before purchasing for the entire villa. Record which functions were checked and which remain unresolved. A sample review should not silently authorise a different device revision.
