The short answer
For cable orders, use the project team's approved cable specification and record required lengths separately from reel or box quantities. Keep electrical and data cables on distinct lines, with exact construction or category requirements supplied by the designer. Ask the supplier to identify reel lengths, product references and supporting documentation for the offered goods.
What to include in your quotation request
| Requirement | Details to provide |
|---|---|
| Approved reference | Cable type and complete project specification, not colour alone. |
| Length basis | Required metres, offered reel lengths and approved purchasing quantity. |
| Identification | Item number, reel label information and project package. |
| Accessories | Separately specified connectors, glands or termination components. |
Do not use the reel colour as a specification
Cable selection belongs with the responsible electrical or networking professional. A procurement request should reproduce that approved specification accurately. Include the full description and any required manufacturer reference instead of shortening it to a broad label such as electrical cable or network cable. Ask for the proposed model's documentation when comparing an alternative. This guide concerns ordering records; it does not determine cable ratings or installation suitability.
Reconcile metres with packaging
Record the length needed by the project and the supplier's offered packaging in separate fields. As an arithmetic example, a request for 450 metres offered only in 100-metre reels would involve 500 metres if five complete reels are purchased. That example does not establish the right quantity for a real installation. Your project team must approve the purchasing allowance, permitted joins and allocation before the order is accepted.
Avoid silently changing the approved product
For networking cables, keep the approved category, construction and any project documentation requirements visible in the enquiry. For electrical cables, preserve all designer-supplied details instead of comparing only a headline size. If the original reference is unavailable, ask the supplier to show the proposed replacement beside it. Have the technical reviewer accept or reject the change before the buyer confirms the commercial order.
Label deliveries by work package
A mixed cable delivery is easier to receive when each line has a stable item number and allocation. Provide the Dubai delivery location and ask how reels will be identified on the delivery documents. Keep relevant product labels and records for reconciliation. AAMA can review electrical and networking cable enquiries alongside approved accessories; state whether you need one consolidated order or separate confirmed releases.

Buyer questions
Can I compare cable offers only by price per reel?
Compare the approved specification and total length supplied first. Reels may contain different lengths or products.
Who confirms cable suitability?
The responsible project designer or installer should confirm suitability and approve alternatives.
Can electrical and data cable be quoted together?
Yes. Use separate lines and complete specifications for both.
